DIY Jewellery Swivel Display Stand By Repurposing Op Shop Find
I've added wearable art to my variety of work (jewellery pendants & earrings so far). Since making my first batch a few weeks ago, and after sharing on my Facebook page, 'Art By Simi', I've had some good sales. I'm attending an art & wine night as one of the featured artists and want to display my jewellery for sale. Now, I could just go and buy a stand. However, I'd rather save money, which can be used to buy more art supplies. Yesterday, I saw a local op-shop (opportunity store) had a 50% off sale on bric-a-brac. I went to see if I could find a display stand of sorts. I really wanted a swivel stand. The closest thing I could find was a coffee pod swivel stand. A quick check online and brand new, the closest type I could find was listed for AUD$24 and located in China. This one looked well made and was in great condition and all for only AUD$2!
What I used to make the display stand:
Small pliers. Coffee pod swivel stand. Picture hanging hooks (I got mine from a discount store for AUD$1 each and used about 2 1/2 packets. You should be able to pick them up cheap online). A small amount of enamel paint. Step 1. Twist off the rounded wire pieces with your pliers. Step 2. Touch up the snapped wire ends with a little black enamel paint (with a strong glue, you could glue on embellishment or beads if you wanted to). Step 3. Unbend the top of the picture hooks so you can attach them to the stand. Press the actual hooks in a little so your jewellery will be attached securely. I didn't do them all in one go initially, but realised it was easier that way.
Step 4. Attach your hooks to your display stand.
Step 5. Now add your jewellery. I have to continue making more to fill up my swivel stand.
This stand cost me all up roughly AUD$4.50. I intend to store it in a light weight bucket with a lid. I'll be able to protect, transport and display my jewellery with ease. I'm really pleased with the result and plan to make another, should a cheap coffee pod swivel stand cross my path.
